Introduction Hello, Maxamul here, I had an idea that could improve the Skygrid islands a lot if this was implemented. The issue is protection sponges, I believe Skygrid is an amazing server but the sponge protection system is very flawed. I will go more in-depth on this in the next section. The Issue The issue, as I stated, is sponge protection. I believe that sponge protection should be removed for a few reasons. If this is done this could improve the server by a lot. They Expire Currently, sponges expire every morning at 7AM EST. This means that you have to replace them every morning. This can get annoying and some players would not know that they need to do this. This would lead to them teleporting other players to their base not knowing that those players can grief them. They can be glitched Other players can also glitch them and claim over them where they will be able to break blocks but the other person will not be able to do so. This means that even if a players sponge is working other players can still grief their island. No other gamemode uses sponges No other gamemode on Mineverse as far as I know uses sponges or any other placeable block that protects a radius around it. This makes new players not familiar with them when they first join and aren't aware of the value of them. This makes them more likely to get griefed because they are not aware of the value of the sponges or lose them entirely. What does all this do? All of this, obviously, will lead players to get griefed. Griefing is not bannable if the land being griefed is not sponged. Which, in the case of the second issue is bannable but not the first. This makes players get griefed very early on without knowledge other players can and will grief them because they are used to having their land protected without issues like these on other gamemodes on Mineverse. Because of this, players do not really have any interest in coming back to Skygrid after getting griefed so they quit early on. If this was fixed more players would play Skygrid as none of them would be getting griefed. Possible Solutions Here I will explain possible solutions to this problem. These are not necessarily the only solutions, but are some I thought of. Make Sponges Work The obvious one is making sponges work. This solution is clearly not easy, as it has taken so long for it to be improved on. But it may be possible to do, if however, this can't be done there are other options. Add the Golden Shovel protection method You most likely know about Survival's Golden Shovel protection method. In this you take a golden shovel and right click in two corners of an area you want to protect. To my knowledge, this can not be bypassed making it a good replacement for sponges. Protect radius by buying area This one could be like factions in that you can protect a certain radius for money. In this case it would be emeralds but the method would be similar. You would buy a radius of so many blocks around you for a certain amount of emeralds. Protect around players automatically Another option is having players automatically have so many blocks protected around them when they do /home, like how blocks are protected on Skyblock. I don't think this one would be as good as the others because if players ever wanted to move they wouldn't be able to do so. A new method entirely There may, however, be a method I did not mention that would work much better than all of these. If this is the case notify me in the comments. Also, you currently cannot add other players to your claims. If we added another method of protection we could add only certain players to our claims so we can build with only certain players of our choosing. Conclusion I like how Skygrid has it's own unique protection method, but let's face it, it is very flawed. I believe that if the sponge protection was changed a lot more people would play Skygrid and would improve it a lot. Also, people would be more trusting and allow more people at their base and make more friends and Skygrid would become a lot happier place.
